Cheerleading - Origins and now

Practicing Toe-Touches! (Sept 28, 2012)
"Blue Devils fans, Clap your hands,
Yell blue ... and white, blue ... and white!

Show your spirit, come on let's hear it,
Yell blue ... and white, blue ... and white!

We've got the best, forget the rest,
Yell blue ... and white, blue ... and white!
Blue and white, let's hear it,
BLUE AND WHITE!"
(Our most basic cheer)

As some of you may know today, we had students who wanted to join cheerleading learn the cheer for Try-Outs next Tuesday, October 2nd.Everyone did a wonderful job learning the cheer.

***For those who are still interested but for some reason did not make the session, you should email Ms. Kwan or Ms. Simon - They might be able to send you an instruction video.

I've been on the Cheerleading team since it first started. Like many of Baruch's clubs including this blog, it sparked with an idea. That idea came from two wonderful sophomores (now seniors), Allison Relyea and Ashley Hall. The A&A duo started by asking if their friends would be interested in joining such club and not long after that, this idea of theirs spiraled in to a real team with Ms. Kwan and Ms. Simon as our coaches (with a lot of support Mr. Soskind). Students and teachers supported the team along the way. They let us, nay, pushed us to preform in prep rallies, Evening In The Arts, and other events. In year two, we've recruited more students including freshmen (now sophomores!). With these new recruits, we practiced and formed new cheers and dances every Tuesday and Thursday. During this time, we ordered awesome uniforms for us to wear when we cheer. Since this was the first year we actually started in the fall, we were able to cheer on our boys' basketball team at their home games.

This year we hope to create more dances and cheers that include mouth-dropping stunts! Since not everyone in the team have a gymnastics background we have to slowly incorporate it- please be patient with us!

How practice will work this year (as far as I know):
*It will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after afterschool at 4:00PM - 5:00PM
(Either in the GYM or the Cafeteria - You will be notified via email-  so check 'em emails)
-You are required to be dressed in proper attire BY 4:00Pm
-We usually start off with a bit of light jogging or some jumping jacks
-Next, we have our stretches - Touch your toes!
-When we are ready, we hop into formation, discuss our agenda for the day and start practicing!

Either way, we are excited to be cheering again, and we hope to see you there when we preform!
